Summer Research Early Identification Program

Brown University, Providence, RI  6/8/98 - 8/7/98

  • Developed laboratory skills in Northern blotting of total RNAs isolated from rat livers after acute carbon tetrachloride liver injury and Solt-Farber carcinogenesis protocol.  Used data to determine patterns of tumor antigen (TuAg.1/pE4) expression for analysis and comparison with other genes of interest.
  • Presented research poster entitled ROncoinjury Related Hepatic TuAg.1/pE4 ExpressionS at National Institutes of Health (NIH) during 1998 Leadership Alliance Symposium - July 25, 1998

Summer Program in Undergraduate Research

    Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH  6/20/95 - 8/31/95
     

  • Acquired laboratory protocol while doing a research project on the incorporation of unesterified omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (w-3 PUFAs) into neonatal rat cardiac myocytes. 
  • Presented research results during a poster session.

  • Developed, distributed, and analyzed patient satisfaction survey of joint and spinal patient  populations at the medical center.
  • Made presentation of survey project to health care administration faculty (USC) and the CEO  of Providence Health Systems (Puget Sound Service Area).

Summer Premedical Enrichment Program

    University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH  6/16/96 - 8/9/96
     

  • Learned detailed knowledge of Cardiovascular Physiology & Anatomy complemented with hands-on application during lab. 
  • Received practical learning and exposure from shadowing a physician in primary care, as well as observing (and in some cases assisting) in general surgery and other clinical specialties. 
  • Biweekly course in Current Medical Issues provided an opportunity to research relevant social issues pertaining to the medical field.

  • Program focused on exposure to the field of dentistry through (1) enrichment classes in Biology, Analytical Chemistry and Dental Science (all with labs), (2) clinical observations in Endodontics, and Oral Diagnosis, and (3) weekly seminars in various dental disciplines.

  • Personnel duties include hiring and training all desk staff, evaluating and providing feedback to desk staff, scheduling of all desk shifts, arranging and facilitating desk staff meetings, coordinating payroll, and serving as a link between RA staff and desk staff.

 PreCollegiate Academic Development Program (PAD) Tutor

  • Program targets underachieving students in local schools by matching them with trained PAD tutors to either form study groups or individual study sessions.
  • Specific duties of job include working with school science teacher to carry out laboratory sessions and general after-school tutoring with students in school library.
